Alt text is a short description added to an image so that people who use screen readers can understand what the image shows. It's an important part of making your website accessible to everyone.
Normally, your team writes this description ahead of time and saves it with the image in your DAM, PIM, MAM or cloud storage system. When you add the image to WordPress, you can then copy that description into the image's Alt Text field.
But doing this by hand for every single image takes a lot of time. The Alt Text Mapping feature in the CI HUB Connector Professional does this work for you automatically. It takes the description already saved with your image in your DAM, PIM, MAM or cloud storage system and fills in the WordPress Alt Text field for you.
Enable Alt Text Mapping
Here's how to set it up:
- In WordPress, go to Media.
- Open the CI HUB Connector Professional.
- Click the menu icon (☰) in the top-right corner to open Settings.
- Scroll to the bottom and check the box that says "Enable alt text mapping for the metadata key."
- A text box will appear, type in the name of the field you want to use (more on this below).
How to Find the Metadata Key
You'll need to know the exact name of the field that holds your alt text description. You can find this either in your DAM, PIM, MAM or cloud storage system, or by checking an image already uploaded to WordPress through the CI HUB Connector Professional:
- Open an image in the WordPress Media Library.
- On the right-hand panel, scroll down to find the CI HUB Connector Professionalfields.
- Find the field you want to use (for example, "caption").
- Look at the full field name and remove the part
com_ci_hub_from the front.
Example: if the field is called com_ci_hub_caption, just type caption into the setting.
What Happens Next
Once this is set up, every time you add an image through the CI HUB ConnectorProfessional, WordPress will automatically fill in the Alt Text field using the description from your DAM, PIM, MAM or cloud storage system. No extra typing needed.
