Many DAM, PIM, and cloud storage systems let you store several files that have the exact same name. This isn't a problem inside those systems, since they can still tell the files apart using extra details behind the scenes.
But problems can show up when you bring these files into design applications. For example, Adobe InDesign needs to save a copy of each file onto your computer before creating things like print-ready PDFs. If two files have the same name and get saved in the same folder, one might overwrite the other, or your computer might rename them automatically (adding "(1)", "(2)", and so on). This can cause mistakes in your final document.
The CI HUB Connector has a built-in feature to prevent this.
How to turn it on:
- Click the menu icon (three lines) in the top-right corner of the Connector.
- Select Settings.
- Find Temp cache folder and turn on "Enable same filenames."
Once this is turned on, CI HUB Connector automatically organizes files into separate folders behind the scenes. This means files with the same name, even from different DAM, PIM, or cloud storage systems, can be safely added to your document without you needing to rename anything.
Good to know: If "Enable same filenames" is turned off, CI HUB Connector saves all files into one shared folder. If two files share the same name, one may end up overwriting the other.
