ExCop: Handling Assets with the Same Filename
In many DAM systems, it is possible to store multiple assets with the same filename because the system differentiates them using metadata. While this works seamlessly within the DAM environment, issues can arise when placing these assets into design applications.
For example, applications like Adobe InDesign require assets to be stored locally on your hard drive when generating outputs such as print PDFs. If multiple files with the same name are stored in the same location, they may overwrite each other or be automatically renamed (for example, by adding (1), (2), etc.). This can lead to unexpected results in your document.
The CI HUB Connector includes a feature that prevents this issue.
To enable it:
-
Open the Options menu in the top-right corner of the Connector (three-bar menu).
-
Go to Settings.
-
Under Temp cache folder, enable the option “Enable same filenames.”
Once activated, CI HUB Connector automatically creates a dynamic folder structure in the temporary cache. This ensures that assets with identical filenames can be placed in your document safely even if they come from different DAM or cloud sources without requiring you to rename them first.
Note: If the “Enable same filenames” option is disabled, CI HUB Connector places assets without any folder structure. When multiple assets share the same filename, this can cause conflicts because the plugin attempts to overwrite the existing file.
