ExCop: How to Relink my Assets

When working with documents that contain assets from your DAM system, the files must be available locally in order to generate a usable print PDF. Applications such as Adobe InDesign require linked assets to exist on your computer.

If you open a document you have never worked on before, some links may appear as missing because the images have not yet been saved locally.

The CI HUB Connector makes it easy to locate and relink these assets.

Open your ExCoP panel by clicking the CI HUB icon on the left side of the folder navigation. In the plugin panel, you can immediately see whether assets are available locally or missing.

Click the Check Status (blue icon) to verify the availability of each asset.

  • If an asset is missing locally, the laptop icon turns red.

  • If the connector finds the asset in a connected storage (for example Dropbox), a blue link icon appears next to it.

You can expand an asset by clicking the arrow next to its name to view additional information and metadata. If multiple versions of the asset are available, they will also be displayed.

The panel also indicates:

  • The creation date of the asset when hovering over the clock icon.

  • Whether the file size or modification date matches the asset used in the document (green icon).

  • Which asset version is the latest available.

To relink an asset, click the blue link icon. You will then be asked whether you want to link the original asset or a smaller rendition.

Original vs. Rendition (PNG or JPEG)

The CI HUB Connector allows you to place assets in your document either as the original file or as a rendition.

Original file
Selecting the original places the high-resolution asset directly from the DAM system into your document. This may include formats such as Illustrator (AI), EPS, PSD, or TIFF.

Renditions (PNG or JPEG)
Alternatively, you can choose a smaller version of the asset:

  • PNG – Recommended for graphics with fewer details, such as logos, or for assets that require a transparent background.

  • JPEG – Best suited for high-detail images and photographs. Note that JPEG files do not support transparency.
