ExCop: Working with Asset Details, Versions, and Renditions

The Asset Detail View

When you click the small white arrow next to an asset, the Asset Detail View opens. This view provides additional information about the selected asset.

Here, you can see details such as the asset name, storage location, last modification date, and file size. The panel also shows whether the asset is embedded in the document and on which pages it appears.

If the asset is used in multiple places, you can click the page link to jump directly to the corresponding page in your document.

Working with Asset Versions

The Asset Detail View also displays version information for assets stored in supported systems such as Digital Asset Management (DAM) platforms, image databases, or cloud storage services like Google Drive.

These systems often create new versions of assets when changes are made. The CI HUB Connector checks for these updates and indicates if a newer version is available.

A triangle icon appears next to assets that require attention. When you hover over the icon, additional information about the available versions is displayed.

You can then select the latest version of the asset and relink it in your document, ensuring that you are always working with the most up-to-date file.

Working with Renditions

When placing image assets, you can choose whether to place the original asset or a rendition.

Renditions are alternative versions of an asset that are typically optimized for specific use cases. For example, when working on web content or prototypes in tools like Figma or Sketch, renditions can help reduce file sizes and improve performance.

They also allow you to place optimized graphics, including vector assets, into environments such as Microsoft Office or WordPress, making it easier to work with assets across different platforms.

Setting Up the Local Folder

To work with assets in the CI HUB Connector, a local folder must be created on your computer.

This is required because applications such as Adobe InDesign need access to locally stored files to perform certain tasks, such as exporting print-ready PDFs. For this reason, the CI HUB Connector automatically stores a local copy of any asset you place in your document.

The folder is created in the following locations:

  • macOS: Macintosh HD/Users/username/Documents/CI-Hub

  • Windows: C:/Users/username/Documents/CI-Hub

All placed assets are stored in this folder.

If you delete an asset from the local folder, the CI HUB Connector will indicate that the asset is no longer available locally. If you download or relink the asset again from your DAM system or connected source, the file will be recreated automatically in the local folder.
