The Adobe Indesign Book Function
Efficiency is key, and the Book Function in the ExCoP is here to streamline your workflow. This feature includes allowing you to display book entries, view documents within books, and perform
bulk actions on these files. A key addition is the “Relink Assets” option, which relinks all assets in a book’s documents, with an overlay summarizing progress to ensure smooth operation. While similar to asset management, there are some differences. Book entries lack detailed information, and documents within books only display if they’re locally available. Additionally, changes to books aren’t automatically detected, requiring a manual refresh after updates. Folder navigation has also been improved, with an “Add to Book” action for InDesign documents, making project organization easier than ever. This feature simplifies document handling, saving time and allowing you to focus on your (creative) work. The Book Function is a valuable addition designed for the CI HUB Connector.
Activate the function
The book function must be enabled in the settings the first time it is used. You can do this by clicking on the menu at the top right and clicking on “Settings”. This will take you directly to the Connector Settings. Activate the book function there . It will then be displayed in your check panel.
Create a Book
To create a book, proceed as usual. Navigate to File / New and select Book... and save it locally.
Now open the DAM of your choice and navigate to the InDesign documents that you want to add to the book. Select the desired file and right-click to add it to the book . You can upload the book file to the DAM. To do this, navigate to the External Content Panel and click on the “+” Add *.indb .
The book file has now been added to the DAM. Close the book document saved on your computer and open the version you just uploaded . From there, you can add as many InDesign documents to the book file as you need.
Switch to the ExCoP to check the book’s status. You’ll see your book listed as a match , along with links to the InDesign documents connected to it. Make sure to check the status of these documents . You can then choose to relink either the entire documents or specific sets within the documents to ensure they are available .
When working on another InDesign document, you can easily upload it to the DAM once you’re done. After that, you can add it to the book file following the steps mentioned earlier. This ensures that your book file and InDesign documents stay synchronized and safely backed up in your content system.
