What is the ExCoP?

The External Control Panel (ExCoP) lets you manage all the files (assets) you use in your application (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.), like images, videos, or documents, that come from a DAM, PIM, or cloud storage system.

In simple terms, it gives you the tools to organize, check, and update your files without ever leaving Adobe.

What can you do with the ExCoP?

With the ExCoP, you can:

  • Add assets to your documents
  • Search for assets in your DAM, PIM, or cloud storage system
  • Move assets from one system to another
  • Upload files from your computer to a DAM, PIM, or cloud storage system
  • Save a file that's embedded in your document directly to a DAM, PIM, or cloud storage system
  • Switch between a high-quality and a lower-quality version of a file
  • See which version of a file you're using, including when it was last updated
  • Get a heads-up if a newer version of a file is available
  • Get notified if a file saved on your computer has been changed
  • Check whether a file is available on your computer
  • See if a file is embedded directly in your document
  • Find out if a file is missing
  • Check if a file's quality (resolution) is too low
  • See which system a file came from
  • View the file's ID number in its original system
  • See which version (rendition) of the file is being used
  • Find exactly where a file is placed in your document, with a quick link to that page
  • View the file's location on your computer
  • See when the file was last updated
  • Check the file's size
  • Run actions on multiple files at once — like checking, reconnecting, or uploading them
  • If your DAM, PIM, or cloud storage system is connected to FADEL (a rights management tool), you can also see usage rights and licensing details for the file

Time and date display

Any dates and times you see in the CI HUB Connector are shown in your own local time.

Here's how that works:

  • All the time information you see is automatically adjusted to match your time zone
  • This is based on the time zone set on your computer
  • The CI HUB Connector gets the original time from your DAM, PIM, or cloud storage system, then adjusts it for you

This way, no matter where you're working from, the times you see are always correct for you.
